What We Do
Southwest Medical Aid is a non-profit organization. We accept and distribute donations of reclaimed medical supplies. SMA has been operating since 2005. We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization staffed and operated solely by volunteers.
How We Operate
Our supplies come from the excess inventory in hospitals, from private practitioners and individuals. The donated medical supplies and equipment are distributed, free of charge, to individuals, families and clinics through a network of clinics and agencies in the US and throughout the world.
Who We Help
Recipients are people who have become marginalized through poverty, fixed incomes, natural disasters or political unrest. Our supplies were among the first to reach Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. Over the past 10 years we have helped people in Arizona, Mexico, Philippines, Tanzania, Belize, Guatemala, Peru and Honduras.
More than $500,000/year in medical supplies is distributed through local organizations such as El Rio Health Center, Gospel Rescue Mission, Most Holy Trinity Parish, Reach Out Women's Center, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Southern AZ Adaptive Sports, Sunsite Bread Basket & TONCA Foundation.
The majority of supplies come from the 3000 Club. Those that cannot be used by SMA are returned to the 3000 Club to be recycled or sent to animal rescue groups.
Through our partnerships with international organizations, we are able to send over $300,000/year in medical supplies to missions around the world.
